However more recently there is light at the end of the tunnel in so far as there being some stability setting into the country, and some of its natural gems are opening up. In the correct political climate, here follows a list of some of the country’s not-to-be-missed natural beauty:
Manovo-Gounda St Floris National Park: Located on the border between the Central African Republic and Chad, the Manovo-Gounda National Park is one of the very best destinations in the country to see plains wildlife.
Dzanga-Sangha Reserve: This is another huge and densely-forested National Park in the South-west of the country. It offers amazing opportunities to see the lowland gorillas, chimpanzees, the rare bongo antelope, forest elephant and forest buffalo.
One of the most remarkable sights here is the forest ‘Bais’ or glades, where a large clearing in the forest is usually caused by water collecting in a basin, which then evaporates leaving behind wonderful salt deposits that the forest wildlife loves. One can come to some of the larger bais and see elephants, gorillas, bongos and forest hogs all in the same area together. An amazing sight to see.
