To our Safari Family,

Robert & I wanted to bring you all up to date on the latest news from your favourite safari destination.

As you can imagine 2020 was a challenging year for our safari business, but life goes on and we have been keeping busy with development of our new website, enjoying time on safari with some Kenyan resident guests (who have been using and loving our Maasai Mara mobile camp), and we have been working hard on ongoing conservation work…oh and a little bit of playtime too!

We are delighted to announce that, taking full advantage of our generous amounts of spare time this year, our new website is now up and running.

In further news…

Kenya has continued to remain one of the least affected countries in the world in terms of COVID-19 due to the many strict measures put in place swiftly at the onset of our first case. This has definitely helped to keep our COVID numbers down and we are seeing international tourists starting to come back in bigger numbers now as we look towards end of February and into March, both of which are a wonderful time to be here.

Our staff have been trained on COVID protocols and procedures and we have managed our camps with these new conditions wonderfully as always. Having our camps open to resident trade also meant both our operations team and camp staff were kept busy with enough work to pull through the past year, which we are thankful for.

Robert & I have been working actively on some exciting new conservation projects across Kenya which we are excited to tell you about when we next see you, and have also had the opportunity to explore some fabulous new areas for our safaris and to discover a couple of exciting new camps that have opened up in the last year.

Kalepo Camp

Located on a dry river with sweeping views of the majestic Mathews Mountains; Kalepo Camp is a private use, family friendly, luxury tented camp which offers exclusive use of 390,000 acres straddling both side of the Mathews Mountains.

From authentic manyatta’s (Samburu villages) to incredible elephants; from singing wells to soaring mountains; our camp is the perfect location from which to explore the diversity of Kenyas “Big North.”

Lolldaiga House

Built in 2016, is a private family home in the magnificent setting of Lolldaiga Ranch. A sprawling old settler-style house, it is furnished with great elegance and every comfort is provided. Perched on a ridge amongst the Lolldaiga Hills, it has exceptional views of Northern Frontier District stretching away below and to the south are Mt Kenya’s snowy peaks.

Sirai Beach

A glorious private home set in tropical gardens on a cliff-top overlooking the Indian Ocean, a chicly modern piece of architecture infused with influence from the Kenyan coast.

Community & Conservation Projects

Olmeoshi Primary School Feeding Project

We wish to continue to send our heartfelt thanks to our very generous donors who have helped to ensure our Olmeoshi Primary School feeding project continues to thrive. It is a programme that is very close to our hearts as it is a local primary school on the Northern edge of the Maasai Mara which is extremely poor and cannot afford to give the children school lunches.

I am personally looking forward to 2021 and heading out on safari again with the many of you who have already taken the lunge and booked with us for the coming year – we cannot wait to share the experiences and wonders that Africa has to offer with all those guests.

On behalf of Robert, myself and the entire Carr-Hartley team we hope 2021 will be an uplifting, exciting and happy year filled with excitement and perhaps now that COVID-19 vaccines are starting to happen,
even an African safari in there soon!

Warmest regards,
William Carr-Hartley.
