To our Safari Family,

It has been a little while since our last newsletter, so I thought I would bring you all up to speed on what’s been happening with us and our safaris business.

After the world has mostly opened-up since the pandemic, we have been very fortunate to have had a busy Summer 2021, through December to March 2022. Most of Europe had not really started travelling again, following a second wave of Covid infections, so the parks and reserves were largely empty, meaning our mostly US and South American guests had amazing places like the Maasai Mara almost all to themselves!

The much-needed long rains finally arrived in late April, but without the gusto that the country badly needed, however at least there was some rain and the parks and reserves have some new growth, and waterholes (mostly) replenished, and we look forward to a busy summer season with some of you, and a number of new guests.

Aside from our normal fabulous itineraries, we are constantly looking further afield for grasses green, and for those who want something different having done a few safaris with us previously. I have outlined some of these below for you to enjoy:

Wellness & Yoga Safaris with Laura Bunting

Adding an element of yoga and wellness to your safari could perfectly complement your adventure in Africa. Nourishing the mind, body and soul whilst immersing yourself in the wilderness, ensuring you return home feeling rejuvenated. Laura Bunting, a Yoga teacher, based in Kenya, can help create a wellness itinerary to enrich your experience. We understand that everyone has different preferences in the world of wellness so we can create flexible schedules to best suit your needs. Start your day on safari with sunrise yoga, guided by the sounds of the surrounding wildlife. If early mornings aren’t your forte, some dynamic stretches and movement after an exciting day of game drives could be exactly what your mind and body need. One can opt for a dedicated yoga safari with yoga being the focus, or have your yoga instructor join your actual safari to help you stretch and relax after those long game drives. A wellness safari is suitable for everyone and is designed to support what will already be a trip of a lifetime – no matter how many times you return

Fishing Safari with Roan Carr-Hartley

Roan, who is Robert’s younger son, has become an avid and extremely capable fisherman in a wide variety of disciplines. He makes his own lures and flies, and whenever he has any spare time, will invariably be headed off somewhere exotic with a tent and a fishing rod. Whether it is fly fishing for trevally or sailfish on the magical Kenyan coast, beach fishing in Gabon, trout fishing on stunning Kenyan mountain lakes and streams, or an exotic combination of any of the above, Roan is your man for an unforgettable fishing safari.

In other news, both our families continue to grow up, and now Robert & Angela’s boys, Taru & Roan have started guiding some safaris for us in between their duties as pilots for the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. This is a welcome addition to our guiding team, as they are fabulous guides, having grown up in the bush, they are extremely knowledgeable and are wonderful company for younger families.

Our two children, Jamie and Amelie, are now 13 and 10 and are a total joy.

Lastly, we wanted to say we cannot wait to see you all one day soon, whether it is on safari or when we pay a visit. Wishing you all good health, and stay safe!

Maisha Marefu!!
